In this article, I would like to introduce the ‘Buddy Program’, a part of Corca’s onboarding culture!

Orcabot onboarding is conducted to get to know all team members by talking directly with them and completing quests together.
But it's another thing to have the friendliest team member with whom you can talk about daily life and regularly ask how you are doing after joining Corca, whether you are adjusting well and whether you have any concerns, isn't it?
Corca’s Buddy Program
That’s how ‘(Buddy)’ started.
The Buddy Program, which is conducted to help new team members who have joined Corca comfortably adapt, is a time when matched team members meet regularly and share various stories.

By learning about Corca's culture and through the Buddy Program, new members can build rapport with Corca team members who are colleagues and whom they can rely on personally as mentors.
- Buddy matching criteria
There was concern that if team members from the same job category were matched as buddies, we would definitely talk a lot about projects and work 😂
So, rather than talking about work, we are matching buddies from different occupations so that we can get to know each other more comfortably by talking about overall company life and each other.
For example, those who joined the company as a Product Manager will be matched with an ML Engineer, those who joined the company as an ML Engineer will be matched with an Operation Manager, those who joined the company as a Dev Engineer will be matched with a Product Manager, and those who joined the company as a Data Scientist will be matched with a Dev Engineer!
Existing team members who are already participating in the buddy program can restart the buddy program for new team members once the ongoing buddy program process is completed.
😉 So you can focus on one buddy at a time
Any member who has been with Corca for more than 3 months can participate in the buddy program as an existing team member, regardless of age/experience, and everyone is happy to participate!

Are you curious about what we talk about during our multiple meetings with Buddies?
For those who may be having difficulty, we are providing simple guidelines that are not required but can help 🥰
Check-in topic Day 1: On the day of joining, introduce the buddy program and say hello. After 1 week: Lunch to check if you have adapted well during the week, if there were any difficulties, and if you have any questions. After 1 month: Coffee chat time to discuss how you felt about working at Corca for a month, whether you had any questions, whether there are tasks you want to do/learn at Corca, etc. After 3 months: Follow-up meeting after the one-month check-in - Talk about project details, share dreams/goals, etc. and ask for help.
It's time to talk about what we can give, but as a result of my personal participation, after meeting several times, an internal intimacy has built up, so simple questions such as 'Have you adapted well to Corca?', 'Are you having any difficulties?'
Anything you two people have in common can be a topic of conversation in the buddy program!

Lunch, lunch support, coffee chat, cafe expenses. If you join the buddy program, of course, we support +.
All you have to do is post it on the Slack channel as shown in the picture below and have a private time!

- Did the buddy program help you get closer to your new team members?
Corgi found out that Buddy was dealing with similar concerns that he had when he first joined the company, and it served as an opportunity for them to talk better and become closer. He said that he wished he had had a buddy when he joined the company as well.
- Were there any memorable stories or episodes from the buddy program?
Squirrel shared an interesting episode!
He said he was impressed by the way the newly hired birdie ‘seriously imagined what she would be doing if she were Mansour’s daughter.’
😂 These buddies are rumored to have played balance games for over 30 minutes since their first meeting.

- Did the buddy program help you adapt to Corca and become closer to your teammates?
In addition to the Corca project, I was able to hear stories about daily life, which helped me a lot in adapting.
Alpaca said yes.
It was good that the psychological distance from other team members was reduced.
He first became friends with Buddy and told us about it!
- Were there any memorable stories or episodes from the buddy program?
I found things in common and found people I knew in the same way. Bee says she started doing it while having a coffee chat with her buddy!
- What would you like to see added to make the buddy program more active?
Flamingo, who has a lot of experience in various workplaces, shared his experience at his previous company and gave great feedback!
After joining the company, it is mandatory to take turns eating with different teams every day for two weeks. Buddies diligently work together with their own team + other teams for a month for Coffee Chat. Rather than having a meal or coffee alone between a new employee and a buddy, the buddy takes the lead in meeting with other team members.
