Moonlight is not only for college and graduate students.Researchers working at the research instituteI also use it a lot! 🔬

“How does a day in the life of someone working in a research lab differ from the research life of a graduate student?”

The Moonlight team previously met researchers from Soongsil University and Konkuk University to hear about their research lives.

While I was developing Moonlight, I heard stories from various researchers, but I still didn't know much about the daily life of the lab. Wouldn't it be possible to get a closer understanding of the researcher's reality that we had never seen before by visiting and talking with him in person?

So the Moonlight teamAPRIL researches reliability and testing of semiconductor packaging at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH)Found it.

📍A place to study whether semiconductors can endure

A lab named ‘APRIL’ at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) is conducting research to observe various phenomena that occur in semiconductor packaging and evaluate the reliability of products.

What was interesting was that researchers from various majors, including physical properties, devices, mechanical engineering, new materials engineering, and electrical and electronic engineering, were gathered in one lab. I thought that when it came to the ‘semiconductor lab’, people with similar majors would gather there. In reality, knowledge from multiple fields was needed to ensure that a single semiconductor operates stably.

We ate pizza together and talked about life in the lab.

How are researchers using theses?

During this visit, we looked at everything from how researchers find and read papers to how they manage AI tools and research data.

This is a time to divide into teams and have deeper conversations with researchers.

Even though we were in the same lab, each person's work methods were quite different. There was also a researcher who collected the original text of the paper in Zotero, linked it to Claude Code to organize the content, and then left the final record in Obsidian. On the other hand, there were cases where research continued with familiar tools such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

It's easy to think that as soon as better tools become available, everyone will move on, but that's not the case. They often continued to use the tools they were already familiar with and their own workflows. than the fact that there are new featuresAre you able to meet naturally when you need to?, andDoes it connect well with the tools you currently use?was much more important.

Preparing for weekly lab meetings

Words that appeared frequently while talking wereLab meetingIt was.

At the lab meeting, we share research progress or present newly read papers every week. Although it was familiar to researchers, it was a repetitive task that required quite a bit of preparation.

You need to find a paper to present, quickly understand the content, move key images and formulas, and organize them into slides. In particular, I was experiencing more inconveniences than expected in the process of importing formulas and images from papers into PowerPoint and Word. In some cases, a separate tool was used to transfer a single formula.

‘Reading papers’, which was familiar to the Moonlight team, was not something that ended with reading for researchers.

Explore papers → Understand contents → Organize images and formulas → Create presentation materials

All of these processes were connected in one flow.

🎮 This time, we had a thesis quiz competition together!

Last time Konkuk UniversityWe had a hands-on time using Moonlight together. This time, there are many people who are already using Moonlight well, so we decided to make time for them to have more fun participating. right awayCompetition using Moonlight’s ‘Quiz’ functionIt was!

The mission was to select papers of interest among papers I had seen for the first time that had been published less than a month ago and solve the quiz within a set time. Everyone was confused at first, butYou quickly become immersed in the paper and use Moonlight's various functions to understand the core of the paper and solve the problem. This was impressive🔥

What fun way can we introduce Moonlight next?😆

Things you can see only when you get close

It was a story I would never have known about if I had not visited, not only about the lives of researchers, but also concerns about the security of research data and the use of AI learning data. I learned that a tool for researchers must not only provide convenience, but also create trust that researchers can trust their results and data with confidence.

I felt it again during this visit. It was very different from imagining in the office, “Wouldn’t researchers need this function?” and seeing researchers actually working up close, and having more functions wasn’t necessarily useful.Real help only comes when it appears at the moment of need without interfering with the flow of research and is naturally connected to the tools the researcher is already using. It could have been this.

Moonlight plans to go directly to where researchers are, rather than just looking at usage records on the screen.

From the moment researchers read a paper to the moment they experiment, organize, and share it with colleagues. I will become an AI colleague who understands the flow more closely.

Thank you for sharing your honest research stories and valuable time.Thank you to the researchers at Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) APRIL! 🌙

🌕 Where is your next destination?

Moonlight’s journey to become a true ‘research colleague’ continues.
